The first SLR camera I bought when I was a student in the 1970s was a Pentax K1000 - built like a brick, fully manual everything with a mechanical shutter and could run battery free, albeit without metering. I survived a while with just one lens, 50mm f1.7, but soon started to expand the lens collection. When I bought my next camera body it was necessarily a Pentax so I could retain the growing suite of lenses. I am now on my 10th camera body (4th digital) and can still use all of the lenses in my collection.
